Mornin' Glory is a Berlin-based Start Up Company specialized in premium quality shaving gear via subscription.

I shot portraits of the founders Fabio Paltenghi & Nicolas Stoetter at their warehouse.
The pictures are to be used in the recent press package available on their website.

Their wish was to have high quality images without the super clean generic commercial look.
For this reason I based the lighting on two daylight colored fluorescent tubes.
Using continuous lighting has one main advantage: you see what you get.
The big disadvantage is that it's not the least bit as powerful as even the weakest flash.

Modern DSLR's can cope with this kind of controlled low-light situations do to their ability to
boast the ISO without compromising image quality.

This was also my first encounter with the critically acclaimed Canon 8-15mm f4L Fisheye Zoom.
I must say, a sweat lens but just about as unnecessary as an eleventh finger. On a full format
sensor you can only use the range from 13-15mm without having circular black borders.
One might question if it might not be a better decision to buy the cheaper and faster Canon 15mm Fisheye.
Fisheyes aren't necessarily lenses that you want to use wide-open but the brighter viewfinder and the
faster AF might be an advantage, not to mention the smaller size of the fixed focal fisheye.
If you work on both full-frame and APS-C it might be a good idea to invest the extra cash for the zoom,
otherwise the 15mm should do the trick.
I'll keep renting fisheyes as needed either at Delight Rental or Rent ONE since I don't think I really need my own.

Mornin' Glory is a ein Berliner Start-up, das sich auf
den Versand von hochwertigen Rasierklingen, respektive Rasierern, spezialisiert hat.

Das aktuelle Pressematerial, bestehend aus
Imagebildern und Portraits der Gründer, haben wir in ihrem Außenlager fotografiert.

Es war ein expliziter Wunsch hochwertige Fotografien zu haben, die trotz allem nicht
total glattgelutscht werbelig aussehen. Erzielt wurde der Look unter Anwendung von
Leuchtstoffröhren als primäre Lichtquelle, welche einerseits den Vorteil haben ein
sehr berechnebares Licht zu erzeugen und zum anderen recht unkritisch sind, im Bezug
auf kleine Bewegungen der Models. Nachteil ist natürlich ganz klar die schwache Lichtausbeute.

Aktuelle DSLRs haben damit aber keine Schwierigkeit, ein etwas erhöhter ISO-Wert ist
noch kein Grund für Schweißperlen auf der Stirn und verhindert zusätzlich, dass
der Look zu glatt wird.

Bei diesem Shoot habe ich zum ersten mal das hochgelobte Canon 8-15 f4L Fisheye Zomm
verwendet. Cooles Teil, aber ungefähr so notwendig wie ein dritter Daumen. Auf einer
Vollformat Kamera sind nur Brennweiten ab ca. 13mm brauchbar, weil alles darunter
einen zirkulären schwarzen Rand bekommt. Aus meiner Sicht wäre das klassische
Canon 15mm Fisheye die bessere Wahl, da es kleiner, lichtstärker und günstiger ist.
Nicht dass, man mit dieser Art Objektiv viel Offenblende fotografieren würde, aber
ein hellerer Sucher ist immer netter, besonders mit der super matten Mattscheibe.

Für Fotografen, die sowohl APS-C als auch Vollformat nutzen könnte das ganze Konzept
schon wieder aufgehen und sich der Mehrpreis as sinnvolle Investition erweisen.

Ich werde solche Nischenobjektive weiterhin bei Delight Rental
oder Rent ONE mieten.

Til Schweiger for Vsya Evropa

I met Til Schweiger while he was shooting his first Tatort episode in Hamburg on the site of
the Elbe Philharmonic Hall.
In Germany Til Schweiger is best known for his box office hits like Keinohrhasen and Zweiohrküken and
his appearance in the critically acclaimed Tarantino flick Inglourious Basterds.

Til only had time during his lunch break which left us about 15 minutes to wrap everything up
after the interview was through. Thanks to my local assistant
the wonderful photographer Bernd Freudendorfer who'd warmly welcomed me to winterly
Hamburg and efficiently kept me from getting to much sleep we got all the shots we needed
and left Mr. Schweiger some time to pick up a quick lunch before heading off to shoot the next scene.

The pics were taken last December(2012) (Tatort nr 865: "Willkommen in Hamburg" aired March 2013) but I
hadn't had the chance to pick up a copy of Vsya Evropa until late September this year
while shooting Mila Anufrieva for the next to come issue (10/2013).
Besides I'm not the biggest updater in the world.

I prefer showing the magazine instead of just uploading the files.
Usually I scanned the issue but I think from now on I'll stick to photos of the layout
giving the whole thing a stronger visual haptic so to speak.































Tatort Neuzugang Til Schweiger am Set an der Hamburger Elbphilharmonie.

Til hat uns seine Mittagspause zur Verfügung gestellt für Interview und Portraitsession,
auf die am Ende knappe 15 Minute entfielen.
Dem Fernsehkenner schon seit der Lindenstraßentage ein Begriff, wird der in den USA lebende
Schweiger mittlerweile auch in internationalen Kassenschlagern, wie zuletzt Tarentinos
Inglourious Basterds, besetzt.


Danke dem wundervollem Fotograf Bernd Freudendorfer,
der sich glücklicherweise überreden
ließ mir zu assistieren und die Nacht vorher schon willkommen geheißen und
vom Schlafen abgehalten hatte, ware das Shooting extrem effizient und Til konnte sogar noch
was essen bevor weiter gedreht wurde.
Vom Interview gibts keine Bilder, da der Wohnwagen als Kulisse eher mager war und man
außer "klack-klack" eh nichts mehr hätte hören können.

Die Ausgabe habe ich erst Ende September in die Finger bekommen, wobei die Bilder schon
Ende 2012 gemacht wurden. Die Tatortfolge Nr. 865 "Willkommen in Hamburg" lief am
10.März 2013 auf ARD und war die erste aus der neuen Hamburg Serie. Zwischendrin
kam auch mal wieder ne Folge mit Cenk...aber vielleicht war die auch alt.
Auf jeden Fall wollte ich lieber das Magazin zeigen als stumpf die Bilder hochzuladen.
Diesmal wurde fotografiert statt zu scannen um das ganze etwas plastischer darzustellen.
